How do I tell what version of the flash ROM do I have installed?

If your system is alive, you can run the 'cmos' tool to check:

# cmos -c romrev

If your system is not alive, you'll need to attach a serial console, and check as the system boots.

How do I upgrade the flash ROM?

See the HowTo for instructions.

Where can I get new flash ROM versions?

The Cobalt ROM source was released under the GPL, and has seen some development outside of Sun/Cobalt. Check http://sourceforge.net/projects/cobalt-rom for the latest.

Where can I get source code for the Cobalt ROM?

What version of the flash ROM should I use?

Flashing the ROM is risky business, and if it fails, the system is dead until you solder in a new flashrom.

If you want to upgrade beyond your current ROM series (the most likely case being that you want to boot a newer kernel), you should upgrade to the latest 2.10.x ROM. 2.10.x adds a few extra things over 2.9.x, like ext3 support. These should also work in all systems.
